10:28 pm - Home version challenges
Since the death of NNR, I've been rather disinterested in DDR since I can't easily get challenges. My friend gimmetokyo and I have a community now that I'd like to plug challengingmode. A community made for DDR challenges for home versions. Join us and have fun and stuff.

02:39 pm - MDR's Party: Matsuri MDR
Yeah, I know it is pretty early for this, but there is a good reason.

Matsuri MDR is coming up on the weekend of my birthday. It isn't just a birthday celebration for me. It is also for my 5 1/2 years at FSC, almost 5 years being employed by South Suburban, my 1 year IIDX anniversary, my 4 year DDR, PIU, and using Master Dragon/MDR anniversary, and 7 month Popn anniversary.

The reason for the early announcement is because I want an Idea of what people want to do. Here is the prelim stuff:

Location: FSC
Time: 3-5 or 3-7.
Date: 4/8, 4/9, or the week before or after
Events: IIDX (for sure: styles 6-9 and maybe USA) popn (for sure: versions 11 and Iroha) Risk (maybe) Taboo (maybe) Trivial Pursuit Genus 6 (maybe) DDR/ITG (doubtful) Poker (IF I happen to get my chip set up to 500) NFL Blitz 2001 (Maybe) NBA Showtime (maybe) Amplitude (if I happen to get a multitap and another PS2 controller) Anything else you can think of.

Gifts: really, just your appearance is good enough for me. Though if you want to bring me something, let me know and I'll get out my wishlist (though maybe the top of the reasonable list will be a dragon plushie)

Not Allowed: Drama (seriously, if you bring the hate I will have to ask you to leave), Alcohol (and don't visit the Avalanche Grill's bar either)

Foodstuffs: mostly snacks so if you want to eat out with me we can do so at Arapahoe Crossing. Also, there will be pitchers of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew *hears a yay from a certain Lynox*, and water.

Needed: another modded PS2 and another IIDX controller. That's really it. My IIDX KOC and PSTWO should be different, as my PSTwo has a red stripe on it and my KOC is stickered up. If wanted you can bring an ASC if you wish.

Invitation: open to COBemani players, as well as some other SW bemani players and my coworkers. Be sure to comply to my Drama rule.

If you have any comments just let me know. I hope to see some of you guys there.

11:35 pm - Midihead Podcast Update
From Midihead.com forums (under the blog button)
PodCast #3 has been delayed a day. The reason for this is that yesterday my in-law's were in a car accident and my wife has left me with the children to take care of her folks. They are OK, just banged up quite a bit. They rolled their car 6 times on the freeway going to Vegas and miraculously walked away with only a few broken ribs and some bruises. They are quite lucky to be alive. So, instead of going into the studio tonight to record I'm typing this message. I'll be going into the studio tomorrow night (Friday) instead. So look for the PodCast here on Christmas Eve.

Thanks for understanding!

01:24 am - DDR Tourney @ NoCO - 9/29/05
-- Edit'd with up-to-date Info and RO Logo -- We're getting sponsored- yay! ^.^

[cross-post from ddrfreak. Original thread HERE ]

Hey everyone! New arcade in NoCO means new tournaments, so without futher suspense: BREAKING POINT! Sponsored by RedOctane!

What: DDR tounament (duh) with the usual Random Caprice, DP scoring and a qualifier (or two) to separate players out into Standard, Heavy and Expert.
When: October 29 (Sat.) *updated to title too*
Where: Foothills Mall in Ft. Collins, CO. New arcade is in the same spot as GX.
How much: $10 for Singles, $8 for Doubles, $15 for both - ALL divisions will be double elimination. - As for Revolt; read below -
Why enter: Prizes include a PSP, a DS and a GBA (SP), and RedOctane merchandise. We all need a reason to get together anyway ^.^

[Edit'd By Squirrel]
Now, for details...
ALL participants WILL play the first qualifier no matter what. Bottom third will be put into the Standard bracket. The top two thirds will then play a SECOND qulifier to seperate Heavy and Expert brackets.
Qualifiers will be based upon Perfects, Greats, and Freeze Arrows. Goods Boos and Misses will be irrelivant, so no matter what FINISH THE SONG!!

As well, we all have a general understanding of each other's levels, so please, Play to the BEST of your ability... or in other words; No Sandbagging. (IE, someone like Spork or Momo ends up in Standard, we'll call foul) - The qualifier will be randomly chosen (either by an Excel program, or by a roll of a dice...something fair of the sort) so ALL SONGS LISTED ARE POSSIBLITIES!!!!

First qualifier possiblities:
MaxX Unlimited Standard Steps
Firefly Heavy Steps
Get Up'N Move Heavy Steps
Telephone Operator Heavy Steps
Legend of Max Standard Steps
WWW.Blondegirl Heavy Steps
Sexy Planet (From Nonstop Megamix) Oni Steps
My Sweet Darlin' Heavy Steps
Eversnow Heavy Steps
Pink Rose Heavy Steps

Second round (Expert and Heavy divider):
Break Down! Heavy Steps
Gamelon De Couple Heavy Steps
So Deep Heavy Steps
Cartoon Heroes Heavy Steps
V (For Extreme) Oni Steps
Sync (For Extreme) Oni Steps
Daikenkai Oni Steps
Drop Out Heavy Steps
Healing Vision Angelic Mix Heavy Steps
Exotic Ethnic Heavy Steps

After every division has a winner, the three winners will break and get a warm up round. Then, a round-robin style dance off will decide who gets the PSP, DS or GBA(SP). It will be on even ground (Standard player faces opponents on Standard, Heavy and Expert play each other on Heavy), so all have a chance at the big prize.

Other place winners (2nd and 3rd) get gift cards and prizes from RedOctane. Gift cards will likely be to Best Buy or Game Stop. Other prizes could be from sponsors and/or benevolent souls (like Ryan, arcade manager, and Sparky who are putting up the capital to get the big prizes).

Doubles will have a pre-posted list of songs for each round. One song each round will be chosen randomly off of the list. Best overall scores move on to the next round. Divisions may be used to seed, but I don't know how many are interested. - Songs will be posted after more input from willing participants...

Out of state visitors, and others in need of places to crash can ask around. I can put up a few (3-5 or so....), others willing to help should say so...please?

Edit: Also, by demand, Revolt will take place after the main events. Prizes for Revolt will be minimal (or nonexistant...), but it's a fun way to kill the evening before OCs. Prizes (if any) will be determined by participant vote prior to beginning. Qualifier for Revolt will be (!) Revolted ..er...generated randomly using the wonderful program that Rathstar designed.

Bob really wants to make this a big deal, so we are seeking (and getting) RedOctane sponsorship, and the prizes are expensive, but good. I hope that most of you in CO can come and that many others decide to car-pool to get here. Heck, there may even be a costume contest (it is Halloween and all).

- Schedule, Subject to Change -
10AM-11AM ( Possible earlier start, information pending) Registration and Qualifiers
11:15 AM - Standard on Machine One, Heavy on Machine Two
12:30 PM - Doubles Competition (Both Machines )
1:45 PM - Expert Competition ( Both Machines )
3:00 PM - Revolt Competition
-When everythings said and done; Old Chicago's

..We're hoping to be done by 6... but everyone knows, things happen, get mixed up, etc... We're looking into getting the machines on free play from after the tournament, we should know by the end of the week for sure.

So Let the pre-registering begin? Please? Anyone? Bueller?

11:05 pm - Rules for the Anime Groove Tournament...
As promised, here are the rules for the Anime Groove Console Tournament at Buy Me Anime on Saturday, July 23. That's less than two weeks away, folks!

Alright, here we go...

All Divisions
1) Double Elimination brackets.
2) No one touches the machine except for tournament personel.
3) In a round, the songs will be chosen by the machine random with both folders closed. This means that songs could be from ItG1 or ItG2, and you will know the song before you play it.
4) The person with the highest percentage wins the song and gains a match point.
5) In the case of a tie, tie breakers will be most fantastics, excellents, greats, holds, least mines hit, most hands, most jumps in that order. In the event there is still a tie, it will be considered a draw with no points issued.
6) Until the semi-finals, the first person with two match points wins the round. In the semi-finals and finals, the first person with three match points wins the round.
7) Modifiers are allowed except for the following:
  • Any modifier that will disqualify you from ranking.

  • Any modifiers in the Handicap, Turn, Insert Taps, or Insert Other categories.

  • Invisible because that's just dumb.

Pick your mods so you can read them without reading your opponents screen.

Beginner Division
1) The bracket will be randomly seeded.
2) All songs will be played on Easy mode unless either one of the two participants chooses Novice.

Intermediate Division
1) The bracket will be randomly seeded.
2) All songs will be played on Medium mode.

Advanced Division
1) The bracket will be seeded by a Qualifier announced at the beginning of the Qualifying Round. I'm not giving hints this time around. It could be anything. Mod rules above hold for the Qualifier.
2) All songs will be played on Expert unless either one of the two participants chooses Hard, or there are no Expert steps.

09:44 am - Northern Exposure DDR tournament in Greeley, July 16
Whoops, I'm posting this on the same day as Steve's post. Make sure you see his ITG tournament announcement below!!

Now that the Greeley mall has an extreme machine, let's all go have a tournament on it! The first ever CO tournament where I can personally guarantee it will be fun!

Details:
Event: DDR Extreme MA/PA tournament
Location: Quartermania, Greeley Mall, Greeley CO (directions)
Date: Saturday, July 16, 2005
Cost: $6 for Standard/Heavy MA | $6 for Revolt | $9 for both

Schedule:
10:15-11:30 - Registration & Qualifying (You must come and qualify if you want to play!!!)
11:45-9:00 - DDR stuffs (tighter schedule TBA)

Rules information:
There will be three divisions: Standard MA, Heavy MA, and Revolt. Rules are subject to change as I receive positive suggestions and work to make sure all events can fit within the time available.

The Standard and Heavy MA rules are almost identical - here they are:
1. Your division and seeding will be based on your performance in the qualifier. The number of people in each division will vary based on the number of entrants. Ideally, there will be some large gap somewhere and I will separate players on either side of the gap into Standard or Heavy. If there is no gap, I'll put the top ~50% if less than 32 people enter or top 16 if more than 32 people enter in Heavy. Again, you must qualify.
2. Brackets will be NCAA-style, double elimination (winners/losers bracket.)
3. Each "round" will consist of two players playing the Random Caprice non-stop course on Normal (if in Standard division) or Difficult (if in Heavy.) Speed mods are allowed. All mods except shuffle, left, right, mirror, little, and freeze off are allowed. Solo must be agreed upon by both players. The higher seed may choose which side to play on.
4. After two songs, both players step off the machine and let the course end. In the semis and finals, both players will play all four songs.
5. Scoring is determined by the following DP formula:
Marvelous: +3
Perfect: +2
Great: +1
Good: 0
Boo: -4
Miss: -8
OK: +6
The player with the higher DP advances to the next round. In the event of a tie, the player with the most Marvelouses advances. If that's tied, then the player with the most Perfects, etc. If all step counts are identical, there will be a rematch.
6. For the Standard division, if a song that is rated 10 on heavy comes up, the machine will be reset. (yes all of them)

The Revolt division is something new I wanted to try. Don't be afraid to try something new! You can sign up for this even if you signed up for Standard/Heavy PA. If less than 8 people sign up for it, it will be cancelled, and I'll be a sad panda. Here are the rules:
1. Your seeding will be based on a qualifier. This qualifier is different from the Standard/Heavy MA qualifier.
2. Brackets will be NCAA-style, double elimination.
3. Each "round" will consist of two players playing random songs with random mods as generated by a weighted algorithm with a computer. For those of you familiar with Revolt Oni on Extreme JP, it's basically the same thing. Here are the weights (SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ALSO THE "GOAL" PART MIGHT BE REMOVED ENTIRELY to simplify things)
All heavy/challenge songs weighed equally except 10's
Boost: 45% Off, 25% On, 15% Brake, 15% Wave
Turn: 20% Off, 20% Left, 20% Right, 20% Mirror, 20% Shuffle
Speed: 30% 1x, 25% 1.5x, 25% 2x, 10% 3x, 10% 0.5x
Visibility: 60% Off, 20% Hidden, 20% Sudden
Arrows: 30% Off, 20% Flat, 30% Solo, 20% Dark
Reverse: 75% Off, 25% On
Goal: 85% PA, 10% Great Attack, 5% Good Attack

4. Results with everything off, sudden+boost, hidden+brake, or >600BPM arrows will be re-rolled.
5. After EACH SONG, players will be scored according to the following formula:
Perfect Attack:
Perfect: 2
Great: 1
OK: 1
Tiebreaker: number of Perfects / Greats

Great Attack:
Perfect: 1
Great: 2
OK: 1
Tiebreaker: number of Greats / Perfects

Good Attack:
Great: 1
Good: 2
OK: 1
Tiebreaker: number of Goods / Greats

6. The first player to win twice advances to the next round.

---------------------

Qualifying:
The qualifier for Standard/Heavy MA will be one song chosen at random from a list of twelve on the day of the tournament. Seeding will be based by number of Perfects, followed by number of Greats. Speed mods are allowed. Ties will be resolved at random or, time permitting, with a random song. Don't worry about not being able to pass the qualifying song!! You'll still get a seed.

Here is the list of potential qualifying songs - all heavy unless stated otherwise:
Ecstasy
Dynamite Rave (Down Bird Sota Mix)
Fantasy (Lockout / Max2)
Dr. Love
La Senorita
I'm Gonna Get You!
Hysteria 2001 (Challenge)
TwinBee ~Generation X~
Don't Stop! -AMD 2nd Mix-
Love^2 Sugar
Paranoia
Stoic (EXTREME version) (Standard)

If there is enough time, there will also be a qualifier for the Revolt division (if not, the seeding will be random.) No mods other than those specified will be allowed, and ALL mods specified must be used. Here are the six possibilities, Heavy unless otherwise stated:
Last Message (1.5x, Left, Brake, Flat)
Midnite Blaze (0.5x, Dark)
Make it Better (Boost, Reverse, Right, Hidden)
Hyper Eurobeat (Sudden, Dark)
Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Hidden, Left, 2x)
Silent Hill (3rd Christmas Mix) (5x, Wave)

both lists are subject to change until two weeks before the event.

Prizes:
Top 2 in each division get some form of cash prize, based on number of entrants. It won't be enough to make anyone rich, but it should be enough for the winners to buy dinner for their friends. Other prizes / sponsorships are TBA, but not planned or likely.

If you have any comments or questions, post them here or hit me up on AIM (rathstar.) Hope to see everyone there!!
